Jimmy Dale (Son of Legendary Guitar Icon Dick Dale)

For Jimmy Dale, surf music isn’t just a genre—it’s a birthright. Known widely as the "Crown Prince of Surf Music,"Jimmy is the son and musical heir of Dick Dale, the legendary, undisputed "King of the Surf Guitar." Groomed from a toddler to carry on one of rock 'n' roll’s most ferocious legacies, Jimmy has taken the torch to ensure his father’s groundbreaking, high-velocity sound lives on.

Early Life & Stage Debut

Jimmy’s musical education began at just two years old when his father harnessed his boundless energy by teaching him the drums. While other kids were learning nursery rhymes, Jimmy was sitting behind a miniature drum kit set up on the side of the stage by his mother, Jill, playing along during Dick's live sets.

By the third grade, Jimmy graduated to the guitar. To honor his development, Dick Dale commissioned Fender Master Builder John English in the mid-1990s to build a custom, right-handed replica of his own iconic gold metal-flake Fender Stratocaster ("The Beast"), complete with a custom skinny neck. Jimmy still plays this exact guitar today.

His official guitar debut became a legendary piece of Dale lore: during a live show, Dick would completely take his hands off his fretboard, leaving the crowd stunned and confused by the continuous, flawless music—until he pulled back the stage curtain to reveal a young Jimmy backstage, matching his father’s intricate chords note-for-note without missing a beat.

Style, Sound & The Legacy

Following his father's passing in 2019, Jimmy stepped forward to pick up exactly where the King left off. He commands the stage with the same intense, raw energy, bringing back the iconic, heavy-gauge string tension, rapid-fire staccato picking, and roaring Fender Showman amplifiers pushed to their absolute limits

To keep the authenticity completely pure, Jimmy frequently tours with Dick's long-time backing rhythm section—including legendary surf drummer Dusty Watson—delivering the heavy, wet reverb and blistering Middle Eastern scales that originally birthed the surf rock phenomenon in Southern California.

Whether overwhelming massive festival crowds or anchoring elite surf rock showcases, Jimmy Dale doesn't just replicate the music—he channels the unmatched power, volume, and spirit of the Dale legacy for a new generation.
