Stacked Like Pancakes
Formation and Early Years
Now based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Stacked Like Pancakes (SLP) is an energetic ska/punk band formed in 2007 just outside of Baltimore, Maryland. The band fuses ska, punk, and alternative influences into a dynamic, high-energy sound. The name reflects that ethos—layered, playful, and anything but one-dimensional.
Musical Style and Evolution
From the beginning, SLP has defied genre boundaries by combining brass instruments like trombone and trumpet with driving guitars, bass, and drums. Their early releases—including We’re Not Insane (2011), THIS IS US (2015), and Strange Creatures (2019)—documented their steady evolution while staying rooted in ska-punk energy. Every full-length album was fully crowd-funded, raising a combined $130,000+ from fans worldwide.
In recent years, the band went back to their ska-infused roots with the EP Everything Happens! (2024), which features collaborations with The Littlest Man Band, Keep Flying, and Suburban Legends, highlighting the band’s deep ties within the modern ska and punk community. Their most recent single, “All Fired Up,” showcases a sharpened, political edge while maintaining the urgency and melodic punch that define the band.
Show History & Highlights
Stacked Like Pancakes gained national traction through explosive live shows. In 2012, they opened for Kid Cudi at Towson University’s Tigerfest, followed by a 2014 Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands win that landed them on the Vans Warped Tour. They returned in 2016, 2017, and its final year in 2019 (before the reboot), cementing their place on the road. Beyond support slots, the band has headlined numerous DIY tours across the U.S., building a grassroots following and establishing themselves as a reliable draw. A key moment came in 2016 touring nationally with Reel Big Fish, helping expand their reach within the ska/punk community.
Community engagement has always been central to SLP’s identity. The band actively supports charitable and social causes, most notably through their annual #PancakeNation charity event, which has raised funds for organizations including Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Ukrainian refugee relief efforts, and families in Palestine.
Stacked Like Pancakes continues to evolve creatively while staying true to their roots—delivering inclusive, high-energy music fueled by connection, persistence, and a fiercely loyal global fanbase.
